Mumbai, Feb 02: TVS Motor, the country’s third-biggest motorcycle maker, said sales had fallen 2.3 per cent in January from a year earlier, but forecast rapid growth in the months ahead.
Motorcycle sales in January fell to 59,844 bikes from 61,223 a year earlier, but the last month's figure was 14 per cent higher than December 2003.
The company has been reporting a slide in motorcycle sales because of a drop in sales of its Max model. Analysts say consumers are turning instead to more fuel-efficient models.
TVS Motor said its recently launched TVS Centra model was logging good sales and was seen driving growth in the months to come, along with the Fiero and other to-be-introduced models.
Scooters sales in January rose 14 per cent on the year to 14,771 units and moped sales rose five per cent to 23,405 units, the Madras-headquartered company said.
Total sales rose two per cent to 98,020 units in January, it said.
