Shimla, July 04: The entire BJP group in Himachal Pradesh Assembly staged a walkout today to protest the non-acceptance of their demand for judicial inquiry into the alleged lathi charge on party workers on June 25. Immediately after Chief Minister V B Singh finished replying to the five day-long budget debate, BJP member Ravi Inder Ravi, supported by some of his colleagues, raised the issue.
Just as speaker Gangu Ram was about to adjourn the House, the BJP members staged a walkout. Later, the speaker adjourned the House till July 14 to enable the house committees to scrutinise the departmental budgets and submit their reports.
Talking to reporters outside the assembly, leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister P K Dhumal said the party would hold rallies and dharnas at district headquarters to press for the demand for a judicial probe into the alleged lathi-charge, in which several party workers were hurt. Police have denied that they carried out a lathi-charge. Bureau Report
