Jammu, Sept 26: Averting a major terrorist attack, police today seized an explosive-laden car with 300 kg of RDX, the biggest haul ever, in Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said here.
Acting on intelligence reports indicating possible terrorist attacks during the Navaratra festival, police located an explosive-laden white ambassador car parked near Doda district hospital around 0300 hours, a police official said.
Bomb disposal squads were called and nearly 300 kg of RDX, filled in pressure cookers and four big cement bags, were recovered from inside the vehicle, the official said.
Besides this, two to three pressure cookers RDX bombs weighing 30 kg each were defused by police this afternoon.
Police had received intelligence reports regarding possible suicide attacks by militants targeting VVIPs and vital installations during the festival season and a major search operation had been launched with special teams fanning the entire district, the official said.
The seized car had a fake number plate- "DEC-4404"- and was fabricated to be used in a fidayeen (suicide) attack or car bomb explosion, he said.
"There is a possibility that militants wanted to target people on eve of Navratras to cause major casualities," he said.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the seizure and were being interrogated, the police official said. Bureau Report
