Lucknow, Aug 25: UP Chief Minister Mayawati says she has not resigned. Mayawati told reporters that she has given a letter to Governor Vishukant Shastri stating that her Cabinet had recommended dissolution of the state assembly and holding of elections at the earliest. Till the state assembly is dissolved there is no question of her resignation, the Chief Minister said after calling on the Governor at Raj Bhavan.
Dismissing "rumours" that she has resigned, Mayawati said she has not resigned so far. "There is no question of my resignation till the House is dissolved by the Governor. It is upto the Governor to call fresh elections".
Mayawati said a decision about her resignation as the Chief Minister would be taken only after the dissolution of the House.
Political instability was created in the state because of politics of horse-trading by the Opposition, she said, adding some MLAs were allured to cross-over sides for the sake of ministership.
"Keeping this in view, the Cabinet today decided to recommend dissolution of the House and holding of fresh elections at the earliest," the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh BJP president Vinay Katiyar today said Chief Minister Mayawati`s recommendation for dissolution of the UP assembly is "one-sided" and the BJP had already withdrawn its support to the coalition government.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri said he will take an "appropriate" decision "at the earliest" on Chief Minister Mayawati`s recommendation for dissolution of the state assembly.
Shastri said he had got two letters today--one from Urban Development Minister and leader of the BJP legislature party Lalji Tandon withdrawing his party`s support to the government and the other from the Chief Minister.
Mayawati told him the state Cabinet has taken a decision to dissolve the House.
