Kozhikode, Nov 28: Former member of the Kerala state legislative assembly and former Janata Dal district president, P K Sankaran Kutty died of a prolonged illness here today, party sources said. He was 72 and survived by wife.

Sankaran, who was jailed during emergency, entered the state assembly from the Balussery constituency here in 1977. A close associate of Janata Dal state president, M P Veerendra Kumar, who is now the ins president and chairman, Sankaran had also served as the Calicut University Syndicate Finance Committee as its chairman from 1988 to 1994.
