One Manipur United National Liberation Front (UNLF) militant surrendered to the Mizoram police at the Mizoram-Manipur border police outpost of Vaitin, John Neihlaia, commandant of first battalion Mizoram armed police said on Saturday. Neihlaia said that the militant, Jehova, 21, surrendered on Friday laying down an AK-56 assault rifle, three magazines and 25 rounds of ammunition. Re-enforcement had been sent to Vaitin hamlet to meet any eventuality that might arise following the rebel's surrender, he said adding that movement of some militants on the border areas was reported.
The surrendered insurgent is being brought to Aizawl by a police escort, he added. Five UNLF militants and around 10 HMAR people's convention-democrats militants surrendered to the Mizoram police last year.
