Chandigarh, Aug 14: Punjab Governor Justice (Retd) O P Verma today said it is time for the people of the country to "review" achievements, failures, strengths and weaknesses
ahead of opening a new era of consolidating the development processes.
"More than five decades after attaining freedom, it is
time that we review our achievements and failures, strengths
and weaknesses to prepare ourselves to initiate a new era of
consolidation of the development process," he said in his
message on the eve of the 57th independence day.
Verma said, "We must not forget that the democratic polity will survive only if we pledge to uphold the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity as enshrined in constitution and also perform the fundamental duties enjoined therein as a matter of faith."
He urged the countrymen to maintain the hard won freedom, traditions of harmonious co-existence, brotherhood and love while re-dedicating to selfless service of the motherland and humanity.
"I urge you to join me in paying our tribute to the brave officers and jawans of the Indian armed forces, paramilitary and police forces who have made supreme sacrifice for the nation. It is because of their selfless sacrifices, determination and love for their motherland that the independence and integrity of this great nation has been preserved," he said.
