Mumbai, June 09: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is like a "headmaster and howsoever powerful a chief minister is, he has to study a lot", Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde said here today. "Soniaji is like a headmaster and she took to task all the 14 Congress chief ministers at the CM's conclave,” Shinde told a gathering of Mumbai Congress activists at Shanmukhananda Hall in Central Mumbai.

She questioned chief ministers about their progress in various sectors like information technology, agriculture, education and other areas, at the conclave, he said.

Referring to former chief minister A R Antulay, Shinde quipped "such was not a case during your tenure...Nobody used to question you in those days".
On the on-going controversy over reservations for upper castes, Shinde said, "The demand is like a double-edged sword.”

He pointed out that Maharashtra was the first state to give concession in education to economically backward classes.

On the reservation for the economically poor among the forward castes, Shinde said that he was heading a coalition government and could not take a unilateral decision in this regard.
