Chennai, Sept 07: After a gap of nearly 10 months, Union minister Murasoli Maran was re-admitted to the Apollo Hospital here in the wee hours today for further treatment.
Maran, flown in from Houston, US, where he was undergoing specialised treatment, reached Chennai around 3 am and was taken to the hospital straight from the airport. His family members and DMK party top brass were present at the airport to escort him to the hospital.
Enquiries revealed that his family had given strict instructions to the hospital authorities not to interact with the press' on his present health condition and hence none of the doctors at the hospital was willing to speak to pressmen.
Earlier, when asked by reporters about Maran's condition, DMK treasurer Arcot Veerasmy said, "He is ok and he is being taken to Apollo for further treatment." Maran had undergone a valve replacement surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi in July last. A fungal growth in the replaced valve led to high fever and chest pain and he was therefore shifted to Chennai and admitted to the Apollo Hospital on September 23.
He underwent a high-risk emergency mitral valve replacement surgery on September 25, following which there were ups and downs in his health condition. He was then taken to the US on November 14 for specialised treatment there. Since there was neither any progress nor deterioration in his health, his family decided to bring him back to Chennai.
