India begins Mission Kabul
India established first diplomatic contact with Kabul in five years on Wednesday. Its special envoy on Afghanistan S K Lambah returned to New Delhi on Thursday. He held wide-ranging talks there with Burhunuddin Rabbani and other leaders of the Northern Alliance on the situation in the war-ravaged nation, its reconstruction as also the future set-up.

New Delhi has offered humanitarian assistance and financial aid to help in the rebuilding of Afghanistan.
The visit was aimed at expressing India`s solidarity with the people of the war-ravaged country, an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson told reporters.
The Indian team, which included eight doctors, arrived at Bagram airfield near Kabul at 0955 hrs, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh informed the Rajya Sabha. Bureau Report
