Pondicherry, Aug 05: Pondicherry Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Mohan was assaulted by four persons, alleged to be in an inebriated condition, on the beach road here when he was on rounds last night, police said today. While three persons were arrested immediately, the other managed to escape and a search was on to nab him, superintendent of police V J Chandran said.

Two of the assailants were said to be French nationals of Pondicherry origin and on a brief visit here. Mohan, who was in civil dress during the rounds to check eve teasing or other incidents in the area, had enquired the youth about their purpose of being there when one of them banged him on the face and tried to take to heels.

A team of police men, accompanying Mohan, nabbed three persons.
