London, Sept 15: American hip-hop band Black Eyed Peas hung on to the top spot in the British singles charts, bettering the latest efforts from both "Pop Idol" star Gareth Gates and Christina Aguilera. The Peas have raised eyebrows in the world of hip-hop with their pacifist ballad "Where Is The Love," which rejects the common formula of macho gun-toting lyrics in favor of political soul-searching.
British singer Dido remained in the second spot with "White Flag," the Official UK Charts Company said Sunday.

Gates, runner up on reality TV show "Pop Idol," saw his new entry "Sunshine" debut at No. 3, with Big Brovaz's "Baby Boy" unchanged in fourth place.
Elton John dropped back to fifth with "Are You Ready For Love," ahead of "Can't Hold Us Down" Christina Aguilera's collaboration with Lil' Kim which entered the charts in sixth place.
Another new single in the top ten was rock band Muse's "Time Is Running Out" in eighth, one spot behind American R&B star Blu Cantrell.

Ultrabeat was ninth with "Pretty Green Eyes," with new release "Shake Ya Tailfeather" from Nelly, P.Diddy and Murphy Lee in tenth.
