Helsinki, Sept 22: Nokia, the world's biggest cell phone maker, said today it acquired sega.com - a subsidiary of Japanese video game maker, Sega Corp - to improve its online games and services. The takeover, completed sept 16, means that Nokia will use sega.com INC's multiplayer technology in its mobile N-gage game deck that features 3d multiplayer gameplay using bluetooth wireless technology and GPRS.

Nokia has slated Oct 7 for the worldwide launch of its N-gage mobile phone that combines the features of a cell phone, MP3-player and a gaming deck.

Nokia is the cell phone market leader with about 36 per cent of all mobile phones sold worldwide, according to Gartner dataquest. Last year, Nokia claimed a 38 per cent market share.
