British deputy prime minister and first secretary of state John Prescot arrives in New Delhi on Wednesday for discussions with Indian leaders on strengthening bilateral relations.
Prescot, who begins a four-nation tour of India, China, Thailand and Japan from Wednesday, will also have discussions on the subject of climate change.
In Delhi, he will have meetings with external and defence minister Jaswant Singh and Brajesh Mishra, principal secretary to the Prime Minister. He wil also attend a dinner hosted by power minister Suresh Prabhu.
The visit is in the run-up to the conclusion of the sixth conference of parties (cop 6) to the UN framework convention on climate change to be held in Bonn from July 16.
He will also open a G-8 conference on new bio-technology food and crops in Bangkok. The conference aims at furthering the international debate on the safety of bio-technology products including genetically modified organisms.
