Jalandhar, June 13: Police did not enter the gurudwara in Talhan village near here, where some people have locked themselves up and threatened self-immolation to protest the state government's appointment of a receiver to take control of the shrine, a senior official said today. "Police did not enter and will never enter the gurudwara forcibly. Only administrative officials went to the main gate of the gurudwara to negotiate with the people inside to persuade them to come out," District Commissioner R S Sandhu told reporters here. Some Sikh leaders had accused police of entering the gurudwara. Sandhu said 70 to 80 people were still inside the gurudwara and had locked themselves from inside. In the morning, 10 women and two 'sewadars' came outside and alleged that the people inside had forced them not to go out, he said. Asked about the threat by some women inside that they would commit self-immolation if police tried to enter the gurudwara, Sandhu said the officials were talking to them to persuade them not to take the extreme step. When contacted, sources inside the gurudwara claimed that over 150 'sewadars', including large number of women were still inside, and some women threatened to commit self-immolation. One 'sewadar' said that two drums of diesel were available with them. Bureau Report
