New Delhi, July 10: For a change, Shekhar Suman’s not breathing fire onscreen. He’s kicking butt instead. Shekhar plays a super sleuth in the sleek thriller, XYZ, premiering on Zee TV later this month, based loosely on Remington Steele.
Shekhar, who loves being on the other side of the firing line when he’s shooting his mouth off, grilling his guests and flooring them with witty repartees in chat shows, says: “It was fun doing XYZ. It’s going to be one of the most expensive serials on television. We shot extensively in Thailand and Malaysia and spared no cost to give it a glossy look. I did a lot of stunts myself and I am really looking forward to this show.”
Of course, Salil Ankola has beaten him with the Star Plus action thriller, Josh. “We started shooting almost a year back much before anyone even thought about an action thriller. The better serial will have more mindshare,” says Shekhar. He is also wrapping up his music album. “It’s a mix of folk, pop and soul music. I think I am a decent singer. The album should hit the stores soon,” he says with a smile.
Shekhar’s comic act in David Dhawan’s Chor Machaye Shor may not have resulted in great box office returns but he isn’t complaining. “I have a strong role in Kundan Shah’s Ek Se Badhkar Ek, which releases in August. A couple of other films are in the pipeline but for now television will keep me busy. I am also going to write a book and start a food chain in Mumbai but first my play will travel abroad,” he lets on.
Shekhar, a fitness fanatic, loves nothing better than his regular workouts, eating healthy food and living a life without regrets. “I live life on my terms, love my work and family. God has been good to me,” he signs off.
