Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 01: The Kerala government today decided to order an inquiry into the alleged lapses in treatment provided to former governor Sikander Bakht who died on February 23 following complications arising out of a minor surgery. ''My government has nothing to hide,'' Chief Minister A K Antony told newspersons here after a meeting of the state cabinet.
The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party triggered a controversy by demanding a probe by an outside team of medical experts into the 'mysterious' death of Mr Bakht, who was one of the senior most Muslim member in the BJP.
Eighty six-year-old Mr Bakht was admitted to the medical college hospital here after he complained of abdominal pain and was operated upon on February 19. Subsequently, he developed infection and cardiac complications.
The Chief Minister said the mode of inquiry and other details would be worked out later.
Asked whether there was any lapse on the part of doctors as per the preliminary report, Mr Antony said he was yet to see the report. Health Minister Kadavoor Sivadasan was looking into all the aspects. ''Since there is a controversy, we decided to probe the matter to clear the doubts in the minds of people,'' he added.
