New Delhi, Feb 28: The Congress today said the party was not surprised at the growing proximity between Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Najma Heptulla and the BJP as there were sufficient hints to that effect even two years ago. Heptulla had severed her emotional and ideological links with the Congress when she received an award from the RSS chief K S Sudarshan, party spokesman Anand Sharma told mediapersons here today.

From that day onwards, both the RSS and the BJP are the best organisations for Heptulla, Sharma said adding that she had already acted in her interests by betraying the interests and ideology of a party which gave birth to her political career and four terms in Rajya Sabha.

Calling sarcastically as cultural exchange, Sharma said the country last week witnessed a rare glimpse of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP president Venkaiah Naidu wearing a 'green' turban and Heptulla, seen with audience, sporting an orange salwar suit.
