Chandigarh, Sept 06: Airtel on Friday claimded that it had become the No.1 cellular operator in Punjab with 5.64 lakh connections as on August 31 this year. Airtel claimed that as per figures released by Cellular Operators Association of India it had 5,64,783 connections on August 31 as against 5,08,902 connection on July 31.
Spice had 5,20,281 connections on July and the same figure has been repeated in August statement, an Airtel spokesman said alleging that since Spice's figures were less they did not provide their latest figures to the COAI.
A Spice spokesman said that they could not provide their last months figure to COAI as their reconciliation of number of connections had been delayed due to upgradation of their exchange switches being carried out.
Airtel claimed that it has been growing at the rate of 20 per cent monthly in Punjab as against the national average of six per cent. Bureau Report
