Fox previously ordered six further episodes of the comedy following a well-received pilot, and now has increased that to 22, reported Variety.

The comedy follows television lawyer Dean Sanderson (Lowe), who takes the reins of his family's firm when his long-running TV series The Grinder is cancelled.

Fred Savage, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Natalie Morales and William Devane also star on it.

"'The Grinder' is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics - two hallmarks of successful comedies," said Fox president David Madden in a statement.

"The critics have embraced this original, fresh and funny show, and the talented cast - led by Rob Lowe and Fred Savage - have done such an incredible job infusing it with biting humour and heartfelt moments.

"We are so excited about the storylines that these fantastic producers have planned for the rest of the season."
