"Apparently, the fire broke out due to some friction during a chemical process in one of the plant", firebridgade officials said, adding "the flames have been almost extinguished now". Most of the labourers in the unit managed to escape when the incident occurred, they said. "Though there were no casualties, the fire caused a considerable damage to the factory, the losses of which would run into lakhs, deputy fire officer B H Patel said, adding detailed probe into the cause would begin tomorrow. He said this is for the fourth consecutive year that the fire has broken out "in the same unit and at the same place."
Eleven water tankers and one foam tender battled the blaze for nearly three hours before it was brought under control, they added.
