Mumbai, June 13: Stressing that BJP was committed to "hindutva" but it was not an election issue, BJP national president Venkaiah Naidu today said the party has set a target of 300 seats in the next general elections. "Hindutva is our commitment....It is not an election issue for us", Naidu said while inaugurating the All India Media Workshop at Rambhau Mhalgi Rabodhini at Bhayander in neighbouring Thane district.

Naidu's statement assumes significance in the wake of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's repeated criticism of its ally, BJP, being "not consistent with its hindutva agenda".

Naidu said BJP has set a target of 300 seats for itself and a two-third majority for the NDA. "We need a stronger BJP for a stronger India", the party leader said, adding India will be one of the developed countries in the coming decade.

He lashed out at Congress for failing to give proper direction and momentum to the country's all-round development during the five decades of its rule.

Naidu said development would be the major issue in the general elections and listed the developments of the Vajpayee-led NDA government.

BJP spokespersons from various states, media functionaries and other members are participating in the workshop.

The three-day workshop would conclude on June 14 and would be addressed among others by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.
