Jaisalmer, June 11: Intelligence agencies, including Rajasthan Police, have been verifying BSNL's pre-paid mobile card users as there were a number of fake cases where the cards were purchased by the same person under duplicate names, official sources said.
BSNL's pre-paid cards were very popular in the bordering district of Jaisalmer but this gave a tough time to intelligence agencies as they were accessible to criminals to establish links with ISI agents, sources said.
BSNL's pre and post-paid cards are issued after verification of the applicants' identity, but there were reports that the pre-paid cards were being bought under duplicate names, sources said adding state intelligence agencies were keeping a close watch on the pre-paid card users
The STD PCO owners had to submit a report of ISD calls to the local police stations, but there was no mechanism to monitor and evaluate ISD calls on the pre-paid cards' users, sources said.
Earlier, BSNL had stopped the sale of ITC cards as a precautionary measure in Barmer and Jaisalmer after complaints of their misuse, sources said, adding, BSNL should consider this aspect and make changes in pre-paid cards sale.
