'The Walking Dead' casts Tom Payne as Jesus

Los Angeles: Actor Tom Payne has been roped in to play Paul Monroe or "Jesus" on horror television series "The Walking Dead".

The 32-year-old English actor was seen dressed up like the comic book character in the first-on-set-pictures of sixth season, reported Aceshowbiz.

Paul "Jesus" Monroe was first introduced in issue 91 of the Robert Kirkman comics. Known for his strong sense of logic, Paul is an adviser to Rick.

The character is still featuring in the comics and is a key member of the group ahead of the war against The Savors and major villain Negan.

The sixth season of "The Walking Dead" starring Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan and Chandler Riggs will premiere in October.
