Raipur, Dec 08: The new BJP government in Chhattisgarh today handed over to CBI the case of alleged attempt by the former Congress chief minister Ajit Jogi and others to defect BJP MLAs to prevent the Raman Singh government to come to power in the state inspite of securing majority in the assembly elections.
"The case was today handed over to the CBI for further investigation," a top official source told reporters here.
Earlier yesterday, the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) had registered a case against Jogi, when he was in office, his son Amit and defected Congress MP P R Khunte "under various sections of Conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act," the source said.
Chief Minister Raman Singh, immediately after the swearing-in ceremony yesterday, had said although the ACB had registered a case against the trio but considering the seriousness of the matter and since it was related to an outgoing chief minister and defection, the case was being handed over to CBI for further investigation to confirm who else are also involved in the matter.
It was for the first ever that a case was referred to the CBI after the state was formed three years ago, the official said adding, it was also the first ever decision of the new government, headed by Singh, as the official approval to hand over the case was obtained by the administration yesterday immediately after the oath.
