Ludhiana, June 15: Accusing the Amarinder Singh government of following an agenda of "witch-hunting and blackmailing selected leaders of the opposition" in Punjab, the BJP said today it will firmly oppose any move to arrest Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal to wreak political vendetta. “The BJP will oppose it tooth and nail if any move is made to arrest Badal as the party can no longer brook politics of vendetta, " Manoranjan Kalia, former minister in the previous SAD-BJP government and a senior BJP leader told reporters.
The BJP leader's comment follows the recent statement of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh that Badal would be arrested only when a foolproof case against his alleged corrupt misdeeds was ready. Lashing out at the Congress government in the state, Kalia said it had failed on all fronts, adding, "By talking about matters like Badal's arrest the government is only trying to divert the attention of the masses from its own failures." He said that the BJP was solidly behind its alliance partner SAD and added that the Capt. Amarinder Singh government's sole agenda was one "of witch-hunting and blackmailing selected leaders of the opposition." Bureau Report
