Lakhs worship guru during Guru Peyarchi
Kumbakonam, July 23: More than six lakh devotees from all over the country worshiped lord Gurubhaghavan Dakshinamoorthy in Lord Aabathsahayeswara Swamy Temple at Alangudi village, 15 kms from here, from early this morning till 12 noon on the occasion of `Guru Peyarchi`, transit of jupiter from `kataka rasi` (cancer) to `simha rasi` (leo) at 1827 hrs today.
Kumbakonam, July 23: More than six lakh devotees from all over the country worshiped lord Gurubhaghavan Dakshinamoorthy in Lord Aabathsahayeswara Swamy Temple at Alangudi village, 15 kms from here, from early this morning till 12 noon on the occasion of 'Guru Peyarchi', transit of
jupiter from 'kataka rasi' (cancer) to 'simha rasi' (leo) at 1827 hrs today.
More than 30 lakh devotees are expected to have darshan of the lord today on this celestial event, officials said.
The temple will be open for darshan throughout tonight and special abhisekhams and aradhanas are continuously going on from this morning. 'Guru peyarchi' festival is being celebrated today also in Sun Parivar Kshetram Suriyanar Temple (sun temple) at suriyanar koil, 16 kms from here.
Special poojas are being performed to Lord Swaminatha at Swami Malai Temple, 8 kms from here, on the occasion. Today also being 'aadi krithigai' day (krithiga star in the Tamil month of aaadi), and the star being the birth star of Lord Swaminatha, it was a 'double festival' in Swamimalai. Due to heavy rush of devotees and also non-availability of water devotees were unable to take holy bath at the Cauvery river.
