Consulted Soha before signing 'Guddu Ki Gun': Kunal Kemmu

Mumbai: Venturing into adult comedy for the first time with "Guddu Ki Gun", actor Kunal Kemmu, who was a little reluctant, said he consulted his wife Soha Ali Khan before signing the film.

The "Golmaal 3" actor, who plays a salesman in the film, had initially said "no" to the movie helmed by director duo Shantanu Ray Chhibber and Sheershak Anand. "Actually, I said no to the project right at the beginning. If you hear the one line concept, you would think it might turn in the wrong direction and embarrassing..."But then I read the script and was intrigued by it. It wasn't embarrassing but a very intelligently written film," Kunal told PTI.

The 32-year-old actor married actor Saif Ali Khan's sister earlier this year. Even though he had liked the script, Kunal asked Soha to give a woman's perspective of the film.

"I thought may be I am feeling this because I am a guy. So I need to get a woman's perspective on this. I asked Soha to read the script. She too had inhibitions initially. But then she read it and laughed. She said it wasn't offensive at all, at least on the script level. If you believe in it you should go ahead with it," he said.

The film also stars Bengali actress Payel Sarkar, who makes her Bollywood debut with the project and Aparna Sharma. The "Kalyug" star says the movie stays clear from objectifying women.

"It is a unisex comedy, as for the first time we have objectified a male and not a woman. It is a film where girls can go in a gang and enjoy. "We will also have special screening for women. We haven't been condescending towards them or made jokes at their expense," Kunal said. "Guddu Ki Gun" releases this Friday.
