Panaji: Bengali director Srijit Mukherji is planning a Hindi remake of his drama "Rajkahini" and says filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has expressed interest in mentoring the new project.
The film has been tentatively titled "Lakeer" and will go on floors next year with actors from all over the country.
"I am planning to remake 'Rajkahini'. Mahesh Bhatt has taken a lot of interest in 'Rajkahini' and expressed interest in mentoring the project," Srijit said.
"Rajkahini" is a story of Bengal partition and the director says for the Hindi version he will shift the location to the Indo-Pak border.
"I am trying to make a pan India movie. It will be a period drama cum political and relationship film."
Srijit's next is a Bengali underworld film, which will expose the rarely discussed underbelly of the shipping mafia in Kolkata.
"Kolkata is mostly associated with Howrah bridge, durga pooja, rosogolla and Sourav Ganguly but there is a dark underbelly in the city which does not get exposed. I am going to delve into the shipping mafia." The movie goes on floors on December 8.
