Mayor of Juarez, Mexico calls for boycott of 'Sicario'

Los Angeles:  Mayor of Juarez, Mexico has called for a boycott of the Emily Blunt-starrer "Sicario", centred on the US fight against drug cartels in Mexico.

Enrique Serrano has objected to the movie's depiction of the town and is apparently considering to sue the producers of the film for continuing to portray it as a lawless place, reported Aceshowbiz.

Serrano said he was not against the movie but rather protesting the way producers portrayed the city in it. He claimed what happened in the film was in the city's past and he had worked hard to clean up that image.

Set primarily in Juarez, Mexico, "Sicario", means 'hitman' in Spanish. The film is about the lawless border area stretching between the US and Mexico, where an idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by an elite government task force official to aid in the escalating war against drugs.

Earlier, the film's director, Denis Villeneuve, had said that the production could only conduct aerial shoots in Juarez because of security concerns. Rather, the filmmakers doubled New Mexico as Juarez in the film.

The movie, which opened in limited theatres, will not hit Mexican screens until December 11.
