MS Dhoni: The Untold Story movie review: Sushant Singh Rajput, the actor, has finally arrived!

There is no denying the fact that cricket and Bollywood are considered as religions in India. And, undoubtedly, heartthrob Sushant Singh Rajput's latest release 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' amalgamates the best of both the worlds. Based on the actual journey of world cup winning captain MS Dhoni, the biopic has a lot to offer in term of his personal and professional life.

If you are a cricket lover, then the opening sequence of 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' will definitely give you goosebumps. For starters, let us tell you that the movie begins inside Wankhede Stadium as India takes on Sri Lanka in 2011 ICC World Cup. Need we say more?

Just when we all thought that the winning shot by MSD will take the silver screen by storm, flashback to Mahi's childhood begins. So, basically, the flick also highlights the stereotypical attitude of Indian parents who do not even consider sports as a career option. But, just like any other kid, even Dhoni was into sports since a young age.

In India, it is believed that if you are good at any sport, then you must be a cricketer. Something similar happened with Dhoni in school. His excellent goalkeeping skills caught the attention of a cricket coach and he was later roped in for the team. And, here, the real struggle began.

During his early days, it was not easy to maintain a balance between education-sports and, at the same time, keep parents convinced. Interestingly, the whole journey of MSD from Ranchi to national squad is aptly shown in the film. 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' also highlights the unforgettable contribution of his friends in making him a legend.

Also, the love stories of Mahi – with ex-girlfriend Priyanka Jha played by Disha Patani and wife Sakshi Dhoni (Kiara Advani) – are sculpted in very well in the script. At no moment, the pace of its storyline drops.

The best part about 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' is that short clips and sequences from the actual matches have been used on-screen. They not only lend a feeling of nostalgia but also make you connect with the storyline even better. You will be amazed to know that, during such scenes, Dhoni's face has been swapped by that of SSR and rest everything remains same as reality. Amazing, isn't it?

Be it 2007–08 Commonwealth Bank Series or first T20 World Cup, the matches shown in 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' will take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions.

Sadly, not much of the green room gossip has been revealed in this film. Not, even the names of the 3 'out-of-form' cricketers were shown in the movie. Yuvraj Singh's persona has outshined everyone even in Dhoni's biopic. Can you beat that?

If we talk about its star-cast, then we can very well say that Sushant has now finally arrived in the Bollywood and all other contemporaries must not take it lightly. The 'PK' hunk has aced the character of Mahi and he was killing it throughout the storyline. Kiara Advani and Disha Patani did justice to their roles. Their screen-time was allotted accordingly. You must keep in mind that the film majorly focuses on the journey of a middle-class Ranchi kid to international cricket legend. So, his love story only occurs in the second half.

Director Neeraj Pandey has made sure that the supporting cast looks closer to the reality that is why no huge names were used in the film. The screenplay of 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' is fine and has its heart-winning moments. Somewhere, we also felt that the flick is a bit too long. It is made sure that the music goes in synch with the story.

In the end, we can only say this 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' is a masterstroke by Sushant Singh Rajput that is a treat for all the cricket and Bollywood lovers. It is a family entertainer and we expect it to work wonders at the Box Office.
