Mumbai: Actress Sonakshi Sinha-starrer 'Akira' has raked in over Rs 16 crore in the opening weekend.
According to a statement released by the film's publicist, 'Akira' is having a steady run at the box office.
"The film collected Rs 6.20 crore on Sunday taking the total business to Rs 16.65 crore," read the statement.
Directed by filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss, 'Akira' released on Friday. The film minted Rs 5.15 crore on day one and Rs 5.30 crore on day two.
Presented by Fox Star Studios, 'Akira' brought Sonakshi and Murugadoss together once again on the big screen. He had previously directed Sonakshi in the film "Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty", which was a success at the box office.
'Akira' sees Sonakshi's character coming to Mumbai from Jodhpur, where she gets into a tiff with the goons of the college she enrols in.
The story is about her fight to come out of a case, where the college goons, a corrupt policeman played by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and another essayed by Konkona Sen Sharma, play crucial roles.
