New Delhi: Not many Cricket personalities make it to the silver screen in India. However, this year we will be gifted with not one but two Cricket movies. One of the movies to hit the theatres in 2016 is Tony D'Souza's 'Azhar' based on one of the most talented and controversial Indian cricketers of all times - Mohammad Azharuddin. The movie details the ups and down in the cricketer's career graph besides highlighting the turbulent times in his personal life.
Playing the titular role in the movie, Emraan Hashmi will be surprising the audiences in a new avatar.
As the date draws closer for its release (May 13, 2016), let us take a look at the biggest highlights of the film.
Emraan Hashmi in the lead role
Dubbed as the 'serial kisser' of Bollywood, Emraan will be doing the talking with a bat in this movie. Although his potential as a good actor has never been undermined, this titular role will prove his mettle of being a versatile actor. Also, it is no Khan that will be portraying the lead role – so it's going to be a big responsibility on his shoulders.
Tainted life of the cricketer
Mohammad Azharuddin as a cricketer has enjoyed decades-long craze in India. However, the batsman was surrounded by a lot of controversies during his stint in the Indian cricket team, including affairs and match-fixing accusations.
Gautam Gulati
Gautam Gulati of 'Bigg Boss 8' fame will be featuring in the flick portraying the character inspired by former cricketer Ravi Shastri. This will be the first time the 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' actor will feature in a full-fledged Bollywood role. He has specifically worked on his appearance for the movie too.
Movies on cricket
For a long time, there hasn't been a movie based on the game of cricket. The fact that it will release in the same year when another sports biopic will hit the theatre – 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story' has mounted even more expectations on this one.
Ensemble of cast
The movie will feature a great cast ensemble. Prachi Desai, Nargis Fakhri and Lara Dutta will be the leading ladies in the flick. While Lara Dutta will be portraying the role of a lawyer, Fakhri will play the second ladylove of Azhar.
