Prior to that, in the 1950s there were fewer scenes representing physical intimacy between the male and the female protagonists. But did you know Indian cinema’s first on-screen kiss was in a silent film titled ‘A Throw of Dice’ in 1929? Yes, you heard it right! The lip-lock happened between Seeta Devi and Charu Roy in the aforementioned film.
Soon, Devika Rani, who is considered as Indian Cinema’s first lady, kissed her real-life husband Himanshu Roy in ‘Karma’ in 1933. And interestingly, the kiss is the one of longest in Indian cinema and it lasted for over 4 minutes!
