N Korea claims US made 220 spy plane flights in May

Seoul, June 01: North Korea accused the United States on Sunday of conducting some 220 spy flights over its communist state in May. North Korea's Radio Pyongyang said that the United States used various reconnaissance planes to conduct 220 cases of aerial espionage in May.

"This shows that the US imperialists are trying to stifle our Republic by force," Radio Pyongyang was cited as saying by South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

The US military in South Korea regularly declines to comment on such North Korean allegations.

The charges come amid heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula because of the North's suspected nuclear weapons development program. Washington keeps 37,000 American troops in South Korea. Bureau Report
