London, May 18: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday said umpires would wear earpieces to help them judge faint edges for caught-behind decisions during September's Champions Trophy. Measures being introduced as part of technical experimentations will include no balls being judged by the television umpire before the on-field umpire actually calls "no ball", said an ICC statement.

The 12-nation Champions Trophy will be held in England Sep 10-25.
Speaking at the launch of the Champions Trophy 2004, ICC general manager (cricket) David Richardson said: "For the second ICC Champions Trophy in succession we hope to be trying various technological innovations to see if they help umpires in the decision-making process."
This research is part of the ICC's ongoing commitment to deal with the issue of suspected illegal bowling actions and will be carried out by the human movement specialist Paul Hurrion."
Richardson said performance statistics of umpires collected over the past year were encouraging.
