Sep 01: When it comes to economic theory, we're not so hot on the whole trickle-down idea. But, apply the principle to fashion, and we're not so closed-minded. We love the idea that great design is no longer the province of the very wealthy, that it's now possible to live your champagne dreams on a Pabst Blue Ribbon budget. Designer Emma Hill, Gap's new accessory queen, is the perfect case in point. An escapee from the world of high fashion, this former accessories designer for Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein hit the ground running with her first complete collection for the Gap. Her slouchy corduroy hobo bags come in a range of sizes, and the bohemian, butter-soft leather shoulder bags are flying off of shelves and onto arms of shoppers nationwide. Who knew democracy could be so chic?
