Lucknow, Nov 13: Jailed independent MLAs Raghu Raj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and Dhananjay Singh have been permitted to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council bye-poll. Special judge (gangster's court) R.A.Kaushik passed these orders on a petition filed by the lawyer of the legislators here today.
The court directed the jail authorities to make necessary arrangements to enable both the legislators to cast their vote in the November 18 bye-election for the lone council seat.
Raja Bhaiya and Dhananjay Singh were arrested on November 3 on charges of threatening BJP MLA Puran Singh Bundela with dire consequences if he deserted the rebel ranks. Gangster Act was later slapped on both of them and they are lodged in Banda and Jhansi jails respectively after being remanded to judicial custody till January 4 next. Bureau Report
