New Delhi, June 01: Reliance Industries vice chairman Anil Ambani has been elected as the Chairman of the National Safety Council (NSC), constituted by the Labour Ministry.
Ambani would hold the office of NSC chairman for three years with effect from May 23, according to a recent government notification.

NSC, set up as an autonomous body by Ministry of Labour in 1966, was aimed at generating, developing and sustaining a voluntary movement on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) at the national level.

The Mumbai-headquartered non-profit entity is managed by an independent 51-member Board of Governors.

Out of the 51 members, 16 members are nominated by the Government, 32 representatives are elected and two experts are nominated by the board.
Director General, who is Chief Executive and Secretary to the board, is appointed by the Centre as recommended by the council board.
