New Delhi, Aug 16: The BJP today categorically ruled out resignation of parliamentary affairs minister Pramod Mahajan in the wake of allegations of his involvement in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case and described the charges as part of a "political conspiracy" against the BJP and the NDA government.
"Pramod Mahajan is a respected leader of the BJP and a senior minister. He will not resign. If we start responding to false and conspiratorial allegations, our democratic setup itself will collapse," party Spokeman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
Senior Congress leader P R Dasmunsi had suggested Mahajan's resignation following the allegations levelled by Madhu Sharma, wife of senior IPS officer R K Sharma, prime suspect in the murder of ‘Indian Express’ correspondent Shivani Bhatnagar.
"The allegation is part of a politically motivated campaign and conspiracy against the BJP and the NDA government, which will be exposed soon," Naqvi said.
He said it was "unfortunate" that instead of extending cooperation in the ongoing investigation, Sharma has chosen to be on the run and seek support of the media to level "baseless" allegations. Bureau Report
