The Trinamool Congress ruled out any truck with the Congress to fight Marxist atrocities in West Bengal, saying the party has become a stooge of the CPI (M). Rejecting former chief minister, S S Ray's suggestion to both the Trinamool Congress and Congress to close ranks and jointly fight CPI (M) with greater strength, Trinamool leader Pankaj Banerjee told newsmen that the suggestion ''does not have any practical purpose while the congress and CPI (M) have been supporting each other on many issues''.
He said the Congress has become ''a stooge of the CPI (M) with its chief, Sonia Gandhi, and the CPI (M) general secretary, Harkishen Singh Surjeet, joining hands to serve the interest of their parties''. ''At this stage, we (Trinamool Congress) can't talk to the Congress whose friend CPI (M) is a political evil'', Banerjee said.
To a question, Banerjee, who is the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, rejected suggestions for an inquiry into instances of cross-voting in his party during the Rajya Sabha elections from the state.
