Malaysia, Mar 24: Jenson Button's seventh place at the Malaysian Grand Prix has earned him praise from former employers Renault.
Button scored BAR's first points of the season, and was unfortunate to lose two places on the final lap.
"It would have been great to finish fifth but I don't think the tyres have really helped us this weekend," said Button.
And after a much-publicised spat with team-mate Jacques Villeneuve, Button was happy to concentrate on racing.
Renault technical director Mike Gascoyne said he was "impressed" with Button's performance..
"After what happened in Melbourne, he's done all his talking on the track."
But Gascoyne defended Renault's decision to drop Button for 21-year-old Fernando Alonso, who finished third. Gascoyne added that Renault are setting their sights on overtaking Williams this season.
"We're not the quickest team but we can certainly race for the podium everywhere," he said.
"We've got to look to finish above fourth in the championship and Williams are probably the ones we need to try and push.
"I think Williams have got a great engine but their car is difficult to handle.
"We're never going to overtake them on a straight line but I think anywhere we out-qualify them, we can hold them off," he added.
