Shillong, May 25: Gloria Remi, wife of San Ngian Thanga the absconding tenant of former CBI top brass U N Biswas, from whose flat a major drug haul was made, has told the police she was born in Myanmar, brought up in Mizoram and married in Bangalore. She was interrogated for the second time by the police for four-and-a-half hours yesterday, a senior official of Madandriting police station said today.
Customs department here had found that Thanga was a Myanmarese and not a Mizo as he had claimed while giving his identity to Biswas. Besides, his Mizo birth certificate was also fake, additional commissioner of customs G Panmei had said yesterday. Interrogation of Jolianga, one of Thanga's associates, was, however, being impeded by the fact that the man did not know either Hindi, English or Khasia, the local language.
Both of them continue to be under police surveillance and have not been arrested, the police official said, adding they would not be interrogated today in view of their Sunday religious practices.
The two children of the Thanga couple - a five-year old girl and a three-month old son are with their mother, he said. The official, however, said it was not yet established whether Thanga, who allegedly supplied chemicals and laboratory equipment to five foreign nationals arrested by narcotics control bureau in Kolkata, was connected with providing sophisticated arms to various insurgent groups of the north east.
