Spiritual gyan with an IT twist: The Times of India
Bangalore, Sept 26: It happens only in Bangalore. Mixing IT with a huge dose of spirituality.
Bangalore, Sept 26: It happens only in Bangalore. Mixing IT with a huge dose of spirituality.
And, this was a spiritual gyan with an IT twist to it, revolving around stress and de-stress, the most common malady ailing the IT army of workers here.
Clad in his trademark sparkling white robe, Sri Sri Ravishanker with an eight-man entourage, drove into the sprawling landscaped office at the Sarjapur Road at 11 o'clock in a silver grey Scorpio and a golden beige Corsa and was taken straight to the Conference e-room where he sat down and engaged himself for over one-and-a- half-hour with Wiproites.
So interested were the employees to ask him questions that even before he arrived on the campus, about 250 questions were already logged in and by the end of the 180 minutes, more than 1000 questions had popped up.
The reason for the online chat: having him address the employees would have been simpler but access to all Wiproites would have been limited. This way, through their Intranet christened Channel W, all the employees irrespective of their location, say in Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune as well as right across the globe, could log in and ask him questions. They could just sit at their workstations, type out questions and receive the replies -all in the comfort and privacy of their own cubicle. And, moreover, ask questions they might have been diffident to ask -this way, no names appeared, just the questions. Most of the questions revolved around how to manage stress, how to strike a right balance between career and home life, how to prioritise things - especially when it comes to work, bosses and family. "The whole point here is to strike the right balance between job performance, physical well being and mental alertness" said Dr A L Rao, president, telecom solutions, Wipro Technologies.
Says Sreedhar, a Wiproite, "although stress has become a part of our life, especially during the past two-and-a-half years when things in the IT sector were not really hot, we have to accept the fact that sometimes we have to take time out to de-stress ourselves.
Although Sri Sri did give some standard replies like stress is good, it is a part of life and that we should accept it but not make it our whole life, it was a great feeling to know that he is replying to our questions - on a one-to-one basis." And, ask Sri Sri how he felt about addressing the IT employees (this Intranet chat was a first of its kind), he says, "I enjoyed it, talking to the IT people."
