Itanagar, Aug 02 : The week-long political uncertainty in Arunachal Pradesh is set for a solution today in a trial of strength between the Congress and the newly-formed United Democratic Front headed by Gegong Apang in a special session of the assembly summoned by Governor V C Pande.
Chief Minister Mukut Mithi has been asked by the Governor to win a trust vote on the floor of the house at 3 pm.
The police has been kept on high alert in view of the situation and likelihood of a deterioration in law and order during the session.
The political stalemate surfaced on July 27 with large-scale defections from the 56-member Congress legislature party to form Congress-D under the leadership of a former minister Kameng Dolo.
The political scene rapidly changed with defected legislators camping at hotel Bomdila where the 42-member UDF was formed comprising 38 members of Congress-D, two associated members of the Congress, one member of the Arunachal Congress, Gegong Apang and one unattached member who was expelled from the Congress recently.
The former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, who ruled the state for 19 years since 1980 till January 1999, was unanimously elected as the leader of the newly-formed UDF. It was Mithi who had ousted Apang from power.
