Officials in the Pakistani capital have been ordered to scrap plans for leave and to concentrate on emergency preparations in case of war with India, official media reported on Thursday.
The state-run APP news agency said all civil defence volunteers in the city and surrounding areas had been called up, while fire-fighting, first aid demonstrations and rescue exercises would be arranged.

"All departments and ministries have been directed to update their contingency plans immediately to deal with any emergency situation," APP reported after a meeting called by the head of the civil defence force.

"It was decided in the meeting that no official of ICT (Islamabad Capital Territory) Administration would leave station without prior permission," it added.

A committee headed by the city's assistant commissioner, Tariq Javed Malik, had been assigned to ensure supplies of food and fuel to the city, the federal government seat in the Muslim nation of 140 million.
