New Delhi, Oct 12: Rupesh Roy added another feather to his cap when he won the boys singles title in the 2nd leg of the ITF Pakistan International Junior Tennis Championships in Islamabad today. The top seed Indian defeated third seed Shahzad Khan of Pakistan 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-3 despite faltering in the closely fought first set of the tie, according to information reaching here.
After losing the first set in tie-breaker, the 15-year-old Kolkata player was able to build up a 5-2 winning lead by encashing on the two double faults from the Pakistani in the sixth game of the second set. Rupesh maintained the pressure on his opponent in the final set to win the set and eventually the match. The win earned him 30 international ranking points. Yesterday, Rupesh Roy along with Sumit Prakash Gupta had clinched the doubles title in the same event. Bureau Report
