New Delhi, Nov 17: Air Marshal S P Tyagi, tipped to be the next chief of air staff, today took over as the air officer commanding-in-chief of the country's premier Wester Air Command. Tyagi takes over from Air Marshal A R Gandhi, who has been shifted to Tyagi present assignment as air officer commanding-in-chief south western air command based in Gandhinagar, according to an official announcement here.

A recipient of Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva medal and Vayusena medal, Tyagi has held important operational and staff appointments, including air officer commanding Jamnagar airbase, assistant chief of air intelligence and operations at air headquarters and AoC-in-C Central Air Command.
