Jammu, June 05: The blistering heat wave persisted in its lethal fury here as mercury touched 45.2 degrees Celsius, the second highest in 50 years. "This is the second highest temperature after 47.5 degrees Celsius recorded on June 18, 1972 during last five decades," a senior meteorological department official said here today.
The met office also ruled out any respite from the sizzling temperature in the next couple of days due to failure of any low pressure in the atmosphere. During last one week, temperature has soared by 6.2 degrees Celsius.
Frequent power cuts and erratic water supply are adding to the woes of people here. Ground water level and level of other resources like rivers have fallen drastically effecting supply.
Thirteen transformers have burnt out due to 'heating effect' in Jammu during last one week, power department sources said, adding, "We have to resort to extra load shedding to save the system." Bureau Report
