The Israeli army started to pull out on Saturday evening from the Palestinian-run town of Beit Hanun in the northern Gaza strip where tanks and troops had moved overnight, Palestinian security sources and witnesses said. Shots were heard in the area when the Israeli tanks, which were deployed in and around the autonomous town, started withdrawing around 6:30 pm (22:00 IST), the same sources said.
Backed by helicopters and bulldozers, the Israeli army took full control of Beit Hanun overnight, where it imposed a curfew and launched a crackdown on radical Palestinian militants. During the incursion, the army killed four Palestinians, including three teenagers and a policeman. Bureau Report
